The SOAR Program Experience
Academics (morning)

Academics (morning)

The SOAR academic program includes daily instruction in:

  • Reading and literacy skills
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Study skills

Class sizes are small and students are grouped in these subjects according to their skill level rather than their grade.

The program also gives students the opportunity to enhance their Social Skills. The SOAR staff provides explicit instruction in social and emotional language concepts and helps students develop their social thinking and associated skills. Through discussion and activities students learn how to:

  • use pragmatic language successfully
  • recognize the skills and expectations necessary to be a positive member of a group
  • initiate and sustain peer relationships.
Enrichment Activities (afternoon)

Enrichment Activities (afternoon)

The Afternoon Activities Program immerses students in a fun midday program where group work, social skills, and fair play are emphasized and reinforced. Students are encouraged to try new things and actively participate in a variety of activities while fostering positive relationships with their peers. Activities can take place both on campus and, on select occasions, off campus. Past activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Sports and athletic games
  • Cooking
